Why You Need More Apps: 6 Tools to Simplify Money Management

March 6, 2017

If you’ve ever had to pay a bill, you’ve probably wished there was an easier way to do it—or not do it at all.

Well, there is an easier way to pay bills and manage your money. Gone are the days of checkbooks and complicated math—technology has changed all that. There’s an app for almost everything, and that includes money management.

The problem is, there are tons of financial apps out there, but not all of them were created equal. We know browsing through the App Store can be overwhelming, so we’ve put together a list of six money management apps that are not only easy to use, but secure and free as well.

Google Wallet – Wallet-Free Shopping

Chances are you already have a Google account. Instead of opening more accounts for other things (which can be a pain to manage), why not take advantage of your existing account and sign up for Google Wallet? This service allows you to send and receive money by linking your bank account with Google, enabling you to store your debit, credit, and loyalty card information all in one place. Plus, you can send money as an attachment via Gmail!

The downside? There’s 2.9% transaction fee whenever you use your debit or credit card (about the same as Paypal). Nevertheless, this app is perfect for making online purchases—and feel free to go without your physical wallet and use this app instead the next time you’re out and about.

Splittr – Splitting the Check for You

Many of us enjoy going out for a few beers with the guys after a hectic day at the office—until it’s time to split the check. Figuring out who ordered what and who owes how much is the only part of the night that isn’t so fun. The good news is, Splittr can take care of this pesky detail for you! Simply create the event in the app (“Drinks with the guys”), add the expenses, the people involved, and what they’ve contributed so far. Splittr will do the rest, calculating who owes what and to whom at the end of the event.

This app works perfectly for any occasion that involves splitting a bill. However, you still have to make payments the good old fashioned way—Splittr doesn’t have a built-in payment feature, but it’s the perfect tool to help you settle the bill with ease.

Mint – The Budgeting App

Budgeting is key to successful financial management, and any app that makes that process easier is welcome. We chose Mint because of the variety of functions it offers. These are just a few:
Create and adjust your own budget
Find out your credit score – for free
Set financial goals
Categorize and set limits for each of your transactions
Send reminders and alerts when you’re approaching your budget limit

Expensify – Perfect for Entrepreneurs

If you want to keep track of the company money you spend, Expensify is the app you need. Use it to track your mileage, scan receipts, and create expense reports. It also has an automatic currency converter, which will help you stay on top of business spending while traveling. Plus, you can easily export this data to any other apps you’re using, making it easier to get a clearer picture of your financial situation.

Finovera – Digital Filing Cabinet

Organize your bills and go paperless with Finovera. This app not only allows you to keep track of all your bills, but it also has the added feature of document storage. This means that you can access old statements and say goodbye to that file full of old documents that’s bursting at the seams.

Digit – The Savings App

You’re not doing money management right if you’re not saving as much as possible. We get it, saving isn’t always the easiest thing to do, but that’s where Digit comes in. Simply link the app to your bank account, and Digit has you covered from there. After it analyzes your income and spending, it finds small sums of money to put aside for you.

But don’t worry, it will never transfer more money to your Digit account than you can afford. And you can easily transfer money from your Digit account to your checking account when you need it. Saving money with zero effort? Sign us up!
